Apps for People with Hearing Loss and Tinnitus

Technology has revolutionized hearing technology and it’s getting better all the time. As well as enhancing the features of hearing devices, the latest technology gives you complete control over your hearing aids.

If you have a smartphone or tablet, you’ll find there is an array of hearing technology at your fingertips. From hearing loss simulation and communication tools to hearing aid control and amplification; you’ll find apps to suit every need.

With so many apps available, however, it can be tricky to find the right ones for you. To make things easier, we’ve rounded up our top hearing loss and tinnitus apps. If you want to use the latest tech for better hearing function, take a look at what’s on offer…

1. Sound Scouts

A clinically proven hearing test app, Sound Scouts is aimed at children over the age of 4, as well as teens and adults. Although nothing replaces a comprehensive hearing test conducted by an audiologist, this app-based hearing test will allow you to monitor your own hearing function at any time.

For children or youngsters who may feel anxious about going for their first hearing test, Sound Scouts is a great way to prepare them. Using interactive tests, pictures, and animations, Sound Scouts makes hearing testing fun for people of any age!

Sound Scout is available on both iOS and Android systems, so you’ll be able to use the app on a variety of devices. The developers recommend using good quality adult headphones when using the app, even for younger children and teens. Once you’ve got your headphones to hand, simply download the app and start having fun with hearing tests.

2. Too Loud?

Excessive noise can be damaging to our hearing function, but it can be tricky to tell exactly when the decibels creep up. The Too Loud? app makes it easy to monitor environmental volume, which means you can protect your hearing function at all times.

Although hearing loss caused by excessive noise could be prevented in many cases, we aren’t always able to gauge when we’re being exposed to dangerous levels of noise. Unfortunately, this means many people experience hearing loss and tinnitus which could have been avoided.

If you want to be able to protect your hearing function wherever you go, the Too Loud? app might be right for you. Enabling you to identify excessive noise, Too Loud? gives you the freedom to protect your ears and hearing function in any environment. Whether you’re at home, at work or at school, this handy app helps you to protect your health.

3. Signia app

If you already wear hearing devices or you’re a first-time hearing aid wearer, you’ll want to download our very own app. Our dedicated hearing aid wearer app provides simplicity, connectivity, and state of the art functionality.

With your smartphone and our Signia app, you can control your hearing aids quickly and discreetly. As well as volume control and hearing programs, you can adjust sound balance too. In addition to this, our 360° spatial configurator enhances directional hearing and enables you to make precision adjustments at any time.

When it comes to connectivity, we have got you covered. If you’re using StreamLine TV or StreamLine Mic for example, you can use our app to adjust the settings quickly and simply. If your hearing aids include a tinnitus therapy signal, you’ll even be able to modify the settings to minimize your symptoms.

We also put you in direct contact with your hearing professional, even if you’re unable to visit them in person. With options for video call, voice call and text chat, you can access professional help whenever you need it.

Available for both Android and iOS, our app couldn’t be simpler to use, so why not download it today?

4. Purple P3 Mobile

Purple Communications offer a variety of VRS – or video relay service – solutions but now you can stay connected wherever you are with their P3 mobile app. Available on both iOS and Android, you’ll find P3 mobile easy to access and easy to use.

Operating as a VRS, P3 enables deaf callers to communicate easily over the phone. With an ASL interpreter on hand, you simply need to open the app and let them know who or where you want to call.

However, P3 offers much more than simply a VRS service. With integrated calling, smartwatch notifications, incoming call notifications, Number Lookup, POP integration, a choice of themes and full screen notifications, P3 offers a whole suite of features and functions.

5. Clear Captions

If talking on the phone is difficult or frustrating, Clear Captions is the app for you. If you have hearing loss, speaking to someone on the phone can be challenging. Even people who wear hearing aids can find phone conversations difficult to follow, which is why Clear Captions is so useful.
When activated, Clear Captions will automatically make captions of your call. This means you can listen to someone speaking and see their words at the same time. Designed to make communication easier, you’ll never find phone calls frustrating again.

To use Clear Captions for free, you’ll need to have been diagnosed with hearing loss which makes it difficult for you to use the phone and be a U.S. resident. Simply submit your certification of hearing loss (available from your audiologist or other hearing care professionals) and you’ll have access to the Clear Captions app, as well as other services and equipment, free of charge.

Currently, the mobile app is only available on the Apple App Store, so you’ll need an iPad or iPhone to use it on the go. However, Clear Captions also functions on certain home phones, so you can use the service without a smartphone if you prefer.
